(UPDATED) PHILADELPHIA — As expected, David Wright and Carlos Beltran were the two Mets among the NL starters announced today for the July 14 All-Star Game in St. Louis. Wright was the leading vote-getter at third base, while Beltran was third in the outfield voting.
Beltran is currently sidelined with a bone bruise in his knee and isn’t expected to play in the All-Star Game. Wright, however, said he has every intention of playing even though he is badly in need of a day off with nine players on the Mets’ disabled list.
It is the fourth All-Star selection in a row for Wright, while Beltran is getting the nod for the fifth time in his career.
Wright swamped Chipper Jones by 1.1 million votes in the third-base fan balloting, while Beltran nipped Alfonso Soriano of the Cubs by 120,000 votes for the final NL outfield spot.
