Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks isn’t hitting, but his throws are breaking records.

In the fourth inning of Wednesday night’s loss to the A’s, he nailed Danny Valencia at home with a throw measured by MLB Statcast at 105.5 mph — the fastest since the league began measuring at the beginning of last season.

For comparison, that’s more velocity than the fastest record pitches in Statcast’s database: a pair of 103.9-mph heaters last season from the left arm of suspended Yankees teammate Aroldis Chapman. Hicks — who had another throw in the same inning clocked at 98.6 mph — had the benefit of a running start and crow-hop on his laser throw.

The 26-year-old has struggled at the plate in limited playing time. The switch-hitter — acquired from the Twins for catcher John Ryan Murphy — is batting .050 (1-for-20) after going 0-for-3 on Wednesday night. His one hit, a single, came as a lefty, which is considered his weaker side.
