The Yankees reportedly have acquired outfielder Fernando Martinez from the Astros on Tuesday night in exchange for Charles Basford, a 22-year-old right-hander, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Martinez — a former top prospect in the Mets’ farm system who was rated the 20th-best prospect in the game by Baseball America in 2008 — has not met those early expectations because of chronic injuries. Basford was pitching for Single-A Staten Island.
Martinez hit just .219 for Triple-A Round Rock this season.
