With spring training less than two weeks away, the Yankees made a minor move Wednesday to bolster their outfield depth.

The Yankees acquired Justin Maxwell in a trade with the Nationals for minor-league pitcher Adam Olbrychowski.

Maxwell, 27, was rated as the Nationals’ eighth-best prospect by Baseball America before last season. He batted .144 in 67 games for the Nationals last year. He batted .287 in 66 games at Triple-A Syracuse with six home runs and 21 RBIs. Maxwell has played parts of three seasons at the major league level.

In the outfield, the Yankees have starters Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher along with Andruw Jones off the bench. Maxwell will join Colin Curtis, Greg Golson and Kevin Russo as outfielders who can play at Triple-A, but also can see time in The Bronx if injuries occur.

Maxwell had Tommy John surgery in October but is expected to be ready for spring training.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated outfielder Jordan Parraz for assignment.
