Unlike the Mets, who have mostly seen success during the Arizona Fall League, the Yankees’ prospects have been much more up-and-down for the Peoria Javelinas in the AFL this year. At the plate, infielder Kevin Russo has led the way, hitting .353 (24-for-68) with two homers, 11 RBI and three stolen bases in 19 games. First baseman Juan Miranda has also been good, hitting .326 (15-for-46) with two homers, nine RBI, nine runs, six doubles and two triples.

The Yankees’ top position prospect, outfielder Austin Jackson, has struggled. He is hitting .221 (17-for-77) with a homer, 11 RBI and more strikeouts (19) than hits.

On the mound, the top performer has been reliever Kevin Whelan. He is 1-0 with a 0.77 ERA, striking out 14 and walking seven in 11.2 innings. Jeff Marquez is 1-0 with a 4.00 ERA, striking out 17 and walking eight in 18 innings – the most on the team. Phil Hughes, the Yankees’ top pitching prospect, has gone 1-1 with a 4.08 ERA, striking out 19 and walking eight in 17.2 innings. But after throwing five scorless innings in his first start, he has allowed eight runs in 12.2 innings.
