Gio Urshela will return to the Yankees with a pay raise in 2020.

The Yankees agreed to a one-year, $2.475 million deal with the surprise standout third basemen from last season, thus avoiding arbitration before Friday’s deadline. Urshela batted .314 and blasted 21 homers in 132 games last season after coming to New York in a trade with the Blue Jays. The 28-year-old is in his first year of arbitration eligibility.

Urshela is penciled in as the starter at third base over Miguel Andujar, who was sidelined for almost all of last season due to a partial labrum tear in his right shoulder. Andujar could see time at first base or in the outfield, or become trade fodder if Urshela maintains his grip on the job.
