With the 2008 draft class now a week old, the Yankees have begun to sign their draft picks, with many of them likely making an appearance in the NY-Penn League for both organizations, which kicks off next Tuesday. So far the Yankees have signed 16 of their picks. The top pick to put his name on paper so far is David Adams, the Bombers’ 3rd round pick out of the University of Virginia. The other selection from the top 10 rounds to sign so far is middle infield prospect Corban Joseph, the Yankees fourth round selection from Franklin High School in Tennessee.
Outside of those two picks, the most notable name to sign with the Yankees is Pat Venditte, the Yankees 20th round selection out of Creighton. Venditte, whom we both expect and hope will be playing for Staten Island this coming season, is an ambidextrous reliever – not exactly something you see every day. Local player Ryan Flannery (Fairleigh Dickenson) also signed with the Yanks.
