Two Domingoes go down.
The Yankees called up Domingo Acevedo from Double-A Trenton, they announced Saturday, a day after they demoted Domingo German to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Yet, Acevedo returned to Trenton following their 7-6 win Saturday over the Mets.
Acevedo was brought up in case the Yankees needed pen help for the day, but they didn’t, and his major league debut will have to wait.
Acevedo has a 2.84 ERA in 50 2/3 innings with Trenton this year, striking out 40 and and walking 18 in 11 games (eight starts). MLB Pipeline ranks the 24-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic as the Yankees’ seventh best prospect.
