BOSTON — The Yankees are finally giving Estevan Florial another chance.

Five months after designating him for assignment, the Yankees selected Florial’s contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday, calling him up to replace the injured Jasson Dominguez ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox.

Florial, the 25-year-old former top prospect, had been passed over for a promotion multiple times this season after struggling to take advantage of previous call-ups.

But the left-handed hitting outfielder continued to rake at Triple-A, batting .284 with 28 home runs, 25 steals, a .945 OPS and 144 strikeouts in 482 plate appearances.

Now, he will get the final 19 games of this season to make a late attempt to preserve his future in the organization.

“He’s going to get an opportunity to play and play a lot,” said manager Aaron Boone, who had Florial batting ninth and playing center field in Monday’s lineup. “Hopefully he can take advantage and build off of what’s been a strong season and parlay that into some big-league success and really catapult him into the winter and put himself in a really good situation.”

Where that might lead Florial remains to be seen. The Yankees spent most of this season without Florial on their 40-man roster, and if they do not keep him on it after the season, he could become a minor league free agent.

This year, the Yankees had given opportunities to other outfielders like Franchy Cordero, Willie Calhoun, Jake Bauers, Billy McKinney, Greg Allen, Everson Pereira and Dominguez before finally calling on Florial again.

“Everybody wants to be in the big leagues,” Florial said. “For me, I just tried to control what I could control. At that time, it was playing hard and getting myself ready.”

Before Monday, Florial had played 30 career games across multiple big-league call-ups since 2020, batting .185 with a .579 OPS and 21 strikeouts in 63 plate appearances. The high swing-and-miss rates have been one of the biggest knocks on Florial.

“He has all the talent to be successful up here, all the tools to be successful,” Boone said. “It’s just about putting them together and putting them together at this levelSo he’s been much more consistent and tightening up the areas of weakness [this year]. It’s allowed him to go out and really put together a pretty monster Triple-A season this year.”

Ian Hamilton (groin strain) threw a bullpen session on Monday afternoon at Fenway Park, his second since landing on the injured list.

Boone said the Yankees still expect the reliever to be back before the end of this season.

On the 22nd anniversary of Sept. 11, the Yankees were set to wear caps honoring the FDNY, NYPD, Port Authority Police and Department of Corrections.

“From a sporting standpoint, I think everyone understands the role that the New York sports teams played in and around that time in helping people heal, being a distraction, whatever it may be,” Boone said before the game was rained out. “So I think it’s very significant that we’re playing, we’re playing the Red Sox — has a tie to it as well, with one of the planes going from here. It’s obviously an important day, a sad day and one that we’ll all remember and remember where we were the rest of our lives.”

Oswald Peraza is dealing with left knee swelling, which was set to keep him out of the lineup Monday for a second straight game had the game not been postponed.

Boone said Peraza got an MRI recently and “everything’s fine structurally,” making him day-to-day.

“He’s just got some swelling on the [outside] of the knee that was bugging him [Sunday],” Boone said. “[Monday] it was a little better. We’ll see if he’s in play by [Tuesday].”

Everson Pereira was also set to be out of Monday’s lineup because he was under the weather.
