Less than a week after being sent to the bullpen, Dellin Betances has been called up from Triple-A to the Yankees.
The 6-foot-8 right-hander who played his high school ball in Brooklyn will be with the team Thursday night when they meet the Mariners. He was 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA at Scranton-Wilkes Barre. Betances, 25, has good stuff, but has struggled with control and keeping a consistent delivery throughout his career.
The Post’s Joel Sherman reported Saturday that the Yankees would be moving forward with Betances as a reliever.
“As a starter, he pitches at 92-96 [mph]” GM Brian Cashman said. “Maybe in the pen, he can pitch at 96 and top out at 100. Who knows? He is healthy. He still has a high ceiling.”
The team will begin to find out Thursday.
