PHOENIX — Apparently the local sheriff’s office has added another duty for its trained dogs: Autograph sniffing.

Two sheriffs and a bomb-sniffing dog entered the Yankees’ clubhouse Wednesday morning before the Yankees’ 3-2 loss to the Diamondbacks, stopped at CC Sabathia’s locker — and asked the newest member of the 3,000 strikeout club to sign some balls.

They also hit up Gleyber Torres for autographs.

Sabathia is in the final five months of his last regular season, but if he wanted to extend what will be a Hall of Fame career, manager Aaron Boone said he believes the 38-year-old lefty could still be effective.

“He is retiring at the end of the year but he probably [could] continue pitching because he is still a very good pitcher,’’ Boone said.
