When the Yankees chose to select shortstop Cito Culver in the first round of June’s First-Year Player Draft, they left many people questioning their decision. One month into his professional career, though, the Yankees are looking pretty smart.
Culver, who grew up in Rochester, N.Y., has more than held his own in the rookie Gulf Coast League. With his 18th birthday still over two weeks away, the 6-foot-2 switch-hitter is hitting .267 with two homers, 17 RBI and six stolen bases in 38 games.
Culver has been hitting even better lately, going 13-for-40 (.325) with a homer, seven RBI and four stolen bases in his last 10 games.
