Now the Yankees’ backups are getting hurt.
Gio Urshela has been one of the unsung heroes for the beat-up Bombers, but the third baseman left Wednesday night’s game against the Mariners after the seventh inning, after fouling a ball off his left knee in the bottom of the frame.
The Yankees announced X-rays were negative, but that Urshela had a left knee contusion.
Urshela hit the dirt and was in pain after the foul, getting checked on by manager Aaron Boone and trainer Steve Donohue before staying in for the rest of his at-bat. He flew out to left field and then was taken out of the game for Thairo Estrada to start the top of the eighth.
