The Yankees have returned Rule 5 Draft pick Jamie Hoffman to the Dodgers.

Hoffmann was the player to be named later that the Yankees received in exchange for sending Brian Bruney to Washington. Hofmann was competing with Marcus Thames for a spot on the 25-man roster, but hit .130 (3-for-23) in 11 Grapefruit League games this spring.

Because he was a Rule 5 pick, Hoffmann would have had to stay on the Yankees’ 25-man roster all season or be offered back to the Dodgers for half of the original $50,000 selection price.
