The Yankees have placed Harrison Bader on irrevocable waivers, meaning any team can claim him and have him on their roster before Sept. 1 and eligible for the playoffs, The Post has learned.
The Mets have done the same with Carlos Carrasco.
Any club can claim either player.
The Yankees are placing Harrison Bader on outright waivers. Robert Sabo for NY PostIf neither is claimed, they would just continue to be on their current roster.
This appears like an attempt to save some money by the New York teams.
Bader is making $4.7 million in his walk year, so is still owed about $880,000 for the rest of the season.
His removal also might make it easier to summon prospect Jasson Dominguez for the rest of the season or take another extended look at Estevan Florial.
Carrasco, who is making $14 million this season, has roughly $2.6 million left.
He also is a free agent after the season.
Teams are making players available on the 48-hour irrevocable waivers period now because it gives a claiming team time to have that player on the roster before Sept. 1, the cutoff for playoff eligibility.
These are strictly waiver claims.
Carlos Carrasco came to the Mets in a trade with Cleveland. Corey Sipkin for the NY POSTTeams cannot trade players on the 40-man roster after the trade deadline, which was Aug. 2.
The Angels put Lucas Giolito, Randal Grichuk, Reynaldo Lopez, Matt Moore and Hunter Renfroe on irrevocable waivers, as well.
