Hand, foot and mouth disease has officially made its way across New York. Not only is J.A. Happ afflicted with the illness that’s normally reserved for children, but he’ll be going on the disabled list.
The Yankees had hoped he would recover quickly enough to make his start against Boston this weekend — he was acquired in large part because of his success against the Red Sox — but his second Yankees outing will have to wait. The Yankees announced he had contracted the illness Tuesday and sent him home.
This comes just a week after the Yankees traded for the left-hander.
Noah Syndergaard was on the DL with the same illness in July but started Wednesday against the Nationals.
