TAMPA — Jasson Dominguez hasn’t made his professional debut yet, but the Yankees’ top prospect continues to get work in during extended spring training at the Player Development complex, where he singled and doubled from the left side of the plate and stole a base Wednesday.

The 18-year-old, signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2019 for $5.1 million, had his first full pro season wiped out when the minor league season was cancelled last year due to COVID.

The switch-hitting center fielder likely would have gotten at-bats against Luis Severino Wednesday, but Severino’s first live batting practice in his rehab from Tommy John surgery was pushed back a day when the right-hander woke up Wednesday with a stiff back.

Meanwhile, Dominguez is expected to play in actual games at some point this summer, perhaps first in the Gulf Coast League before moving to Low-A Tampa, which began its season a week ago.

“We’re in a different world,” senior director of player development Kevin Reese said last week. “We didn’t play last year. Jasson is an 18-year-old that we’re all excited about. He’s got a lot of talent and a lot of skill. He hasn’t played in a ton of games. We just wanted to put him in the best place to succeed.”

Reese added the Yankees liked what Dominguez did during minor league spring training earlier this year.

“He was a pro,” Reese said. “He was one of the guys. We’ve all seen guys ask for things to be done a certain way because they’re a certain level of prospect or type of player. He fit in really well. Guys liked being around him, players and staff. … Everything came to the table as advertised with the talent and makeup. It’s all there.”

Luke Voit started for a second straight game at first base. He made his season debut Tuesday after missing the first 34 games of the season following surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in his left knee. He got hit with a pitch in his second at-bat Tuesday but remained in the game until being removed for defense in the seventh.

Aaron Hicks was back in the lineup and in center on Wednesday after missing Tuesday’s game with the bruised shin he suffered when he fouled a ball off it in Sunday’s game.

After saying he wanted to play all three games of the series despite the hard turf at Tropicana Field, Aaron Judge was back in right on Wednesday. … Gary Sanchez didn’t start Wednesday, but he’s homered in two of his past three games.

Thursday’s starter, Jameson Taillon, said he wanted to make his in-game adjustments faster than he did in his previous outing, when he pitched a season-high 6 ¹/₃ innings against the Nationals.
