Relief core
After Deivi Garcia threw three scoreless frames against the Phillies, a parade of Yankees high-leverage relievers — Aroldis Chapman, Darren O’Day, Justin Wilson and Chad Green — combined for four more hitless innings, allowing just one baserunner on a walk.
Ninth blunders
The ninth inning was one to forget for the Yankees. After Kyle Barraclough walked the bases loaded and allowed the tying run to score on a wild pitch, Reggie McClain let the go-ahead run score when he dropped a throw back from the catcher and didn’t realize it.
Caught my eye
Luke Voit’s knee looked just fine as he raced into second for a double on a check-swing that leaked into shallow right field. The first baseman had hit a sacrifice fly earlier in the game.
Saturday’s schedule
The Yankees will travel to Sarasota, Fla., to play the Orioles at 6:05 p.m, with Michael King scheduled to get the start on the mound.
