The Yankees have signed right-hander Sergio Mitre to a one-year, $900,000 deal, ESPN.com reports.
The Yankees could have non-tendered Mitre, 29, by Thursday’s deadline and allowed him to become a free agent.
Next season will be Mitre’s third with the Yankees. The righty appeared in 27 games last season, making three starts, going 0-3 with a 3.33 ERA. He is a long shot to make the rotation and likely would be used as a long reliever if he makes the big-league club.
