Just how far have the Yankees fallen?

The Yankees have the same chance as the Mets to reach the postseason.

After their 4-3 loss to the Rays on Tuesday night in The Bronx, the Yankees dropped 5 ½ games behind the Tigers and Royals for the American League’s second wild-card spot, while the Mets were also 5 ½ games back of Pittsburgh for the second wild-card spot in the National League following a 2-0 victory over Colorado.

Keep in mind, of course, that both teams would need nearly miraculous turnarounds to even have a chance and almost certainly will be able to schedule a Subway Series golf tournament for the end of September.

But in the meantime, it’s another ugly milestone in another disappointing season in The Bronx.
