INSIDE THE MATCHUPS
ASTROS: Humber is off to an awful start, losing all five of his starts, allowing 21 runs on 35 hits over
23 ²/3 innings. He allowed seven earned runs over
4 ²/3 innings in Houston’s 7-2 loss to the Red Sox on Thursday. Tonight will be Humber’s third career start against the Yankees.
YANKEES: Kuroda earned the victory in his last start on Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings in the Yankees’ 5-3 win over Toronto. In seven career starts against the Astros, all as a member of the Dodgers, the veteran right-hander is 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA.
STAT SO?
ASTROS: Houston played one series at the old Yankee Stadium in June 2003. It was a series that included the Astros’ six-pitcher, no-hit 8-0 victory on June 11.
YANKEES: The Yankees tallied just four hits on Sunday against Toronto but still won the game 3-2. Strangely, the Yankees had won five of their six home games in which they have been held to four hits or fewer. Prior to this stretch, they had lost eight straight such games and 38 of the previous 44 (May 2003-May 2011).
