Clint Frazier was the designated hitter for Single-A Tampa on Thursday. It was his first game action since July 19 for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, when he suffered a head injury that landed him on the big league DL with post-concussion migraines. Frazier suffered a concussion in spring training. Frazier went 1-for-3 in the first game of a doubleheader before Tampa’s second game was rained out.

“Assuming that all went well it’s exciting he is back in a game,’’ Aaron Boone said of Frazier, who has appeared in 15 big-league games this season, hitting .265. “Now see how he is able to bounce back, start building up stamina and start building consecutive days then we can start to think about him being an option at some point. But, first and foremost, it’s really good to see him get back on the field.’’

Because Frazier has missed so much time and the minor league season is ending early next week, it’s likely he will need to get at-bats in simulated games at the minor league complex in Tampa in order to work his way back to the big leagues after rosters expand on Saturday.

Asked if Frazier could be an answer in the outfield while the Yankees wait for Aaron Judge’s fractured right wrist to heal, Boone said it was too early to tell.

“We will see. [Thursday] is his first game being back on the field,’’ Boone said. “Today was a DH day, so first things first is him coming out of these games responding well, bouncing back and then you start to have those conversations after he gets some games under his belt. But we aren’t quite there yet.’’

Judge ran the bases, participated in outfield drills and played catch Thursday, but didn’t touch a bat.

“Hopefully we will get a bat in his hands at some point but not there yet,’’ Boone said of the right fielder, who hasn’t played since July 26 due to a fractured right wrist. “I think [Thursday] was a good day, another positive step forward. Making progress, but slow still.’’
