TAMPA — Andy Pettitte, pleased with how he recovered from Monday’s 25-pitch bullpen session, declared himself ready to pitch an inning against the Mets on Wednesday in the Yankees’ spring training finale.
The lefty originally thought he would not pitch until a minor-league game Thursday.
“I talked to (pitching coach) Larry Rothschild last night and I realized I would feel good enough to pitch,” Pettitte said Tuesday outside the Yankees clubhouse. “I bounced back real good and I feel good for an inning tomorrow.”
The process will continue to be fluid after Wednesday’s appearance. Pettitte and the Yankees have yet to determine if the he will be on a four- or five-day throwing program.
