TAMPA — Yankees pitching prospect Andrew Brackman is idle with a groin injury that will force him to sit out three days, according to Joe Girardi.
“We will do some (physical) testing Sunday to see where he is at,’’ the manager said
Brackman was a fringe rotation candidate at the beginning of camp but likely will pitch at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A) this summer.
“This seems minor,’’ pitching coach Larry Rothschild said. “More precaution than anything else. I want to keep the momentum going. He has done a nice job to this point. If this goes on a long time we will keep his arm strength.’’

Mariano Rivera threw a second bullpen session and said he felt good. No word when Rivera will get into a game. He is slated for at least one more bullpen session.
The Yankees are using the same slow approach with Rafael Soriano and it’s not injury-related.
“It has nothing to do with his health,’’ Girardi said.

Catcher Russel Martin blocked balls in drills yesterday and could catch his first game Monday or Tuesday. … Andruw Jones was sent home suffering from the flu. Eduardo Nunez and Austin Romine were sick earlier in the week.
