The Yankees will call up Tyler Wade in advance of Friday’s series opener at Toronto, YES Network first reported. The move comes after second baseman Gleyber Torres was placed on the 10-day DL with a right hip strain. Torres is expected to be out until the end of this month.

Wade won a major league job in spring training, but he struggled in his stint in the Bronx. In 13 games, he held a .086/.158/.143 slash line, leading to a demotion to Triple-A Scranton.

Things have since turned around, though. Since June 1, Wade has an .833 OPS in Triple-A, and this will be his latest chance to prove that can translate to the major league level.

If not, the Yankees have other options. Ronald Torreyes, who hit .323 in 24 games with the Yankees this year, was demoted earlier this year due to a logjam. Torreyes is on the temporary inactive list due to a personal issue, but once that gets resolved, he could be an option.
