D.J. Mitchell will be making his Triple-A debut tonight for the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees at home against the Rochester Red Wings. The right-hander went 11-7 with a 4.01 ERA in 23 appearances (22 starts) for Double-A Trenton this year, striking out 96 and walking 57 in 133 innings.
Mitchell went a combined 12-7 with a 2.63 ERA last year between Low-A Charleston and High-A Tampa, striking out 125 and walking 44 in 140.1 innings in his first full season in pro ball. He was drafted in the 10th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of Clemson.
He is just the latest pitcher to be called up from Trenton to Scranton/Wilkes Barre this season, and will join former teammates Lance Pendleton and David Phelps in SWB’s rotation.
