Given that he is a Yankee with talent, it’s remarkable DJ LeMahieu lasted this long before a scare.
The most beaten-up team in the majors is adding another name to its lengthy list of injury concerns, as the Yankees removed LeMahieu after two and a half innings Sunday during a game in San Francisco. The team said he had right knee inflammation two days after he fouled a pitch off his leg. X-rays were negative.
The leadoff hitter was 1-for-2 with a run scored before being pulled for Thairo Estrada, who slotted into second base.
LeMahieu has been one of the most valuable Yankees this season, slashing .306/.360/.429 entering Sunday on a team whose injury list has gotten ridiculous. Missing, just in the infield, have been Greg Bird, Troy Tulowitzki, Didi Gregorius and Miguel Andujar.
