CHICAGO – As Alex Rodriguez comes in, Derek Jeter is headed out again.

The Yankees placed Jeter on the DL tonight with a Grade 1 strained right calf.

Jeter has played just five games this year and his DL stint is backdated to Saturday, Aug. 3, meaning the earliest he could return is Sunday, Aug. 18 when the Yankees complete a three-game series in Boston.

In Jeter’s place, the Yankees recalled David Adams from AAA Scranton. Adams has hit .198 in 28 games for the Yankees this season.

To make room for Rodriguez, utilityman Brent Lillibridge was designated for assignment.
