The Yankees released Chad Gaudin because he wasn’t going to be on their Opening Day roster and they couldn’t find a trade for him.
Gaudin entered camp as a contender for the fifth spot in the starting rotation that today went to Phil Hughes.
“There was somebody out of the mix that was not going to make it,” Brian Cashman said. “And out of the mix between the crew competing for that fifth spot, we made the determination that Chad’s been the one that wasn’t going to make it.”
