The Yankees and reliever David Robertson agreed on a one-year deal on Friday, avoiding arbitration.
The contract is worth $3.1 million. Robertson will serve as Mariano Rivera’s setup man after Rafael Soriano opted out of his contract and signed with the Nationals.
Robertson was dominant in 2011 going 4-0 with a 1.08 ERA. When Rivera tore his ACL last season, the righty was given the closer’s role but struggled in a brief opportunity, Soriano took over and held the role throughout the season.
