Yankees fans first became acquainted with David Robertson during the 2009 postseason, when the little-known reliever did not allow a run over five relief appearances during the team’s World Series.

Now the 26-year-old righty is pivotal part of the bullpen as Mariano Rivera’s setup man.

Even though the Yankees will depend on Roberston much more in these playoffs, starting Friday with the ALDS matchup with the Tigers, he doesn’t sound overwhelmed.

“Pressure is pressure,” Robertson said before the team’s workout Thursday. “You’re going to have tons of pressure. For me, personally, I am going to try and do the same thing I’ve been doing this season. I can’t change who I am. I am going to throw the same pitches and I am going to try and get guys out.”

That worked just fine for Roberston this year, with his 1.08 ERA that got more infinitesimal as the season went on. Robertston allowed one run over the final two months of the season, or four fewer than he did in one nightmare appearance in last year’s ALCS, when the Rangers tagged him for five runs in 1/3 of an inning to put Game 3 away for Texas.

“Being consistent. That‘s the biggest thing,” Robertson said of his 2011 emergence. “I try to be like Mariano. He just goes out there consistently and gets the job done. For me, I just want to go out there, throw strikes, get off the mound quickly and get the ball to Mariano.”
