CLEARWATER, Fla. — CC Sabathia pitched five scoreless innings in which he allowed three hits, fanned two and didn’t issue a walk in the Yankees’ 7-0 loss to the Phillies on Thursday.
“It felt good, a lot better than the other day,’’ said Sabathia, who was spanked for five runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings by the Nationals in his previous outing, March 5. “I could actually work on stuff.’’
After the Nationals got him, Sabathia and pitching coach Larry Rothschild tinkered with his mechanics.
“Me and Larry worked in the bullpen. I have a pause in my delivery. I was floating through it instead of staying through it,’’ Sabathia said. “We worked it out in the bullpen and took it into the game.’’
Joe Girardi’s staff has been led by Sabathia for two years and this was a more familiar sight than the previous game.
“That’s pretty much the CC we are used to seeing,’’ Girardi said of his ace, matched against Phillies stud Roy Halladay, who threw six scoreless innings.
