The Yankees added a name to their utility infield mix after seeing Isiah Kiner-Falefa sign with the Blue Jays.

Kevin Smith, who was non-tendered by the A’s earlier in the offseason, signed a minor league deal with the Yankees, a source confirmed.

Smith, who grew up in East Greenbush, near Albany, posted on X that he was “heading home for 2024” in announcing the move.

The 27-year-old was part of the package Oakland received when it traded Matt Chapman to Toronto in a salary dump and although he’s had some success at the minor league level, Smith hasn’t been able to hit in the majors.

He has a .516 OPS in parts of three seasons with the A’s and Blue Jays.

He played mostly third base and shortstop.

Oswald Peraza and Oswaldo Cabrera remain on the roster as potential utility players.
