The Yankees declined Damaso Marte’s $6-million option for the 2009 season, but the Bombers have signed the lefty reliever to a three-year, $12-million deal with a club option for a fourth season.

Marte, who was acquired from the Pirates with Xavier Nady in late July, appeared in 25 games for the Yankees, going 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA. Marte had more success with the Pirates last season, going 4-0 with a 3.47 ERA.
