At the very least it’s a much-needed day off for Vernon Wells.

The Yankees are sitting the scuffling left fielder on Friday night against the Rays with Zoilo Almonte getting the start. Almonte got his first major-league hit – an infield single – while pinch-hitting for Wells in Thursday night’s loss to Tampa Bay.

Wells is in the midst of a 13-for-110 skid, and has gone 112 at-bats since his last home run.
