SARASOTA , Fla. — Mark Teixeira chilled the Yankees’ marrow when he left tonight’s game against the Orioles in the second inning after taking a Jeremy Guthrie pitch on the left arm near the elbow.
Guthrie, who walked Randy Winn and Francisco Cervelli to start the inning and loaded the bases with a one-out walk to Nick Johnson, drilled Teixeira with the next pitch.
Teixeira immediately bent over in discomfort. Not long after trainer Steve Donohue and Joe Girardi arrived, Teixeira was ushered off the field by Donohue.
The injury was called a contusion and he was slated to be examined by Dr. Tim Johnson, the Orioles’ orthopedist.
