GLENDALE, Ariz. — Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira has pulled out of the World Baseball Classic after injuring his right forearm swinging in the batting cage.

Teixeira was set to start at first base for Team USA but was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday’s exhibition game against the Chicago White Sox.

Team USA said Teixeira will be sidelined eight to 10 days.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said in Tampa, Fla., that X-rays on Teixeira’s hand and wrist area came back negative.

Girardi said Teixeira did not have this problem before leaving the Yankees camp.

The Rays’ Ben Zobrist started at first base for the U.S. team and Teixeira will be replaced on the roster.

Teixeira is the latest Yankees star to be injured this spring. Curtis Granderson broke his forearm on Feb. 24.
