TAMPA — James Kaprielian might not get into a spring training big league game because the Yankees are going slow with their top pitching prospect after he missed most of last year with a right flexor tendon problem.

However, the right-hander taken in the first round of the 2015 draft out of UCLA has put the injury in the past.

“I was past thinking about my arm months ago,’’ Kaprielian said after throwing in a simulated game on a back field at George M. Steinbrenner field Sunday morning. “I went into the offseason healthy, and I feel great right now. The goal is to make strides in the right direction.’’

Kaprielian, 23, made three starts for Single-A Tampa last year before he was shut down. He worked in the Instructional League and the Arizona Fall League. He likely will open this coming season at Tampa, where the weather is better than Double-A Trenton in April.

“Being in a competitive environment in spring training is exciting and I look forward to it,’’ Kaprielian said of the simulated action. “There are some things I can take away from today and try and improve.’’
