The Yankees traded Mike Tauchman to the Giants on Tuesday in exchange for left-hander Wandy Peralta and a player to be named later. Tyler Wade was recalled from the alternate site to take Tauchman’s spot on the roster.

Tauchman had been unable to get back to the form he showed in 2019, when he was a reliable left-handed bat and was able to play all three outfield spots well.

A calf injury cut that season short and Tauchman struggled last year, when he said he aggravated a shoulder injury.

He made the team out of spring training, but with the Yankees using Judge, Aaron Hicks, Clint Frazier and Brett Gardner in the outfield, there was little room for the 30-year-old Tauchman, who was out of options and had just 16 plate appearances this season.

Peralta, 29, had a 5.40 ERA in 10 relief appearances with San Francisco this season. He has spent parts of six seasons in the majors with the Giants and Reds. He has an option left, so he can be sent to the minors. And with the Yankees getting little length from their rotation (only six teams have gotten fewer innings from their starters), they could use another arm in the bullpen.
