The Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees begin their first-round, best-of-five series against the Columbus Clippers tomorrow in Columbus, and the two teams have set their playoff rotations.
Right-hander D.J. Mitchell will get the call for SWB in Game 1, and will face off against lefty David Huff, who has spent time in the majors with Cleveland this season. Right-hander David Phelps will start Game 2 for SWB, while former SWB pitcher Zach McAllister, who was the Player To Be Named Later send to Clevleland in exchange for trade deadline acquisition Austin Kearns, will start for Columbus.
A familiar name to Yankees fans, lefty Kei Igawa, will take the hill when the series shifts back to Moosic, Pa. for Game 3 on Friday. Igawa will square off against Columbus righty Yohan Pino. Right-handers Hector Noesi and Paolo Espino will start for SWB and Columbus, respectively, if it gets to a game Game 4, and right-handers Corey Kluber and Lance Pendleton are in line to start a decisive Game 5.
Mitchell, Phelps and Pendleton all began the year in the starting rotation for Double-A Trenton, while Noesi began the year pitching for High-A Tampa before receiving multiple promotions in 2010, as well as pitching in the Futures Game during July’s All-Star Weekend festivities in Anaheim.
