Last weekend Aaron Boone said CC Sabathia probably would be on the Yankees’ ALDS roster. Wednesday, the status of the veteran lefty was yet to be determined.
“That’s another thing we are working through [Wednesday],’’ Boone said before the Yankees’ workout at the Stadium in preparation for Friday’s Game 1 of the ALDS against the Twins. “And will be one of those conversations.’’
When the Yankees moved Sabathia to the bullpen the plan was to have him start an inning the first time and then be used in an unscripted situation. Sabathia worked a clean inning on Sept. 24 against the Rays when he struck out two of three batters. But he never appeared in any of the three games against the Rangers.
Though the right knee has been the biggest problem for the 39-year-old lefty, he also had an MRI exam on his left shoulder in late July. Asked Sunday in Texas if he had a cortisone shot in the shoulder Sabathia said he hadn’t.
“That’s what we are deciding on, just making sure he is good to go, he can handle it,’’ Boone said of the relief role. “That is what we are working on [Wednesday].’’
Clint Frazier’s locker was occupied by Mike Ford, and Frazier wasn’t seen on the field during the Yankees’ workout.
Injured outfielder Mike Tauchman was in uniform for Wednesday’s workout but didn’t participate. Tauchman strained a left calf muscle on Sept. 8.
Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu and Brett Gardner stayed on the field following the workout to hit off a pitching machine.
