Will the Mets sweep this short two-game series, or will the Yankees salvage a split?
Game 2 of the 2022 Subway Series Wednesday night follows what was an exciting opener, in which the Mets quickly responded to the Yankees’ pair of first-inning home runs and came away with a 6-3 win in front of a sellout crowd at Citi Field.

Max Scherzer used the PitchCom system for transmitting signs for the first time Wednesday night in his Subway Series debut against the Yankees, saying catcher Tomas Nido wanted him to try it.
He may use it again after pitching seven shutout innings against the Yankees, but he made one thing crystal clear: he doesn’t think PitchCom belongs in the game.

He trotted in from center field when Starling Marte’s line drive landed harmlessly in the left-field grass. He briefly glanced at the pile of joyful Mets trying to squash Marte at first base. Citi Field hadn’t actually waited for the ball to hit the ground before the home-team portion of the 43,693 who’d stuffed the yard for the second straight night started celebrating this 3-2 Mets win.
Aaron Judge reached the dugout, shook his head softly. Two Yankees fans behind the third-base dugout applauded before Judge disappeared into the clubhouse. It was the Yankees’ 10th loss in 15 games. They’re 11-13 in July. There are no alarm bells yet, not 11 ½ games clear in the AL East.
Still, a guy can get used to winning every day, just as a guy can get used to hitting a home run every day. It’s mostly been that kind of year for Judge. Just not this time.
Right after the Yankees lost to the Mets Wednesday night, news broke that the Bombers were acquiring outfielder Andrew Benintendi in a trade with the Royals.
Here is what Aaron Judge had to say about the deal:
"Adding a guy like that will definitely give us a little pump-up, that's for sure."

Max Scherzer rose to the occasion in the Subway Series spotlight.
On his 38th birthday, Scherzer tossed seven shutout innings. He did not get the win, however, after David Peterson blew the lead in the eighth by giving up a two-run homer to Gleyber Torres.
Here is what Scherzer had to say about the environment at Citi Field:
Starling Marte hits a walk-off single in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 3-2 win and a two-game Subway Series sweep over the Yankees.
Eduardo Escobar led the ninth inning off with a double, and Tomas Nido's sacrifice bunt advanced Escobar to third with one out. After Brandon Nimmo's infield single, Marte hit a single to left to win it.
Seth Lugo worked a scoreless eighth inning, getting Aaron Judge to ground out for the final out. Judge is now 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in the game.
Wandy Peralta will now come in to pitch for the Yankees, who will try to force extra innings as the score remains tied 2-2.
It wasn't easy, but Clay Holmes kept the score even.
The Yankees brought their closer in for the bottom of the eighth and he got Pete Alonso to ground out to begin the inning. Holmes then walked Daniel Vogelbach, who was lifted for pinch-runner Travis Jankowski.
Mark Canha grounded out to second, with Gleyber Torres unable to tag Jankowski out as Jankowski was running on the play. However, Jeff McNeil grounded out to end the inning.
