Yankees’ big-money stars running out time to save season

The advantages the Yankees have over the Royals are plentiful, notably how plentiful they are. 

They have a payroll roughly three times larger than that of Kansas City. But what that gives the Yankees is a very top-heavy roster. And so if their most moneyed men are not going to rise to October, then they are playing on a way more even field with the Royals.

And, indeed, they are now playing on an even field in this Division Series, tied one game apiece.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. offers explanation for Yankees' offensive struggles

Chisholm Jr., who had a homer in the bottom of the ninth, chimed in on what went wrong for the bombers offense tonight.

He chalked it up to being unlucky and hitting 'right at people.'

Rodon comments on loss

Carlos Rodon explained what went wrong in his Game 2 start where he gave up four runs.

He noted that he wished he trusted his slider a bit more or whatever pitch was called.

It'll be Clarke Schmidt getting the start against Seth Lugo.

Yankees lose 4-2, series tied

It's over. Final score: 4-2 Royals.

The series is now tied at one game a piece.

The Yankees got shaky pitching from Carlos Rodon and then burned through nearly the entire bullpen to try and keep the game close.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. gave a spark of life with a homer in the bottom of the ninth -- but the bombers failed to come through with additional runs.

Maikel Garcia knocks fourth hit of night

Maikel Garcia is one hit away from matching the entire Yankees' total.

Garcia's ninth-inning single puts him at four hits on the night -- one shy of the Yankees' total heading to the bottom of the ninth.

Aaron Judge got the Yankees started in the bottom of the eighth by knocking a base hit in which he beat out the throw by 3B Maikel Garcia.

Aaron Wells proceeded to strike out following the Judge single and then Giancarlo Stanton grounded into a double play. Inning over.

Ron Darling puts commentator's curse on Carlos Rodon

The commentator's curse has struck again.

Ron Darling famously quipped that Rodon has 'no-hit stuff' literal moments before Carlos gave up a hit.

A few innings later -- and Rodon proceeded to give up four runs.

Yankees come up short again in seventh

Nothin' doin' for the bombers in the seventh inning.

After a leadoff single by Alex Verdugo, the Yankees couldn't bring him home.

Jon Berti lined out to right, Gleyber Torres struck out and Juan Soto flew out.

In a lone bright spot tonight, the Yankees bullpen is keeping things at bay.

The Yankees still trail 4-1, but at least they're keeping within striking distance.
