The Yankees are back in action.

New York’s in Kansas City for Game 3 of the ALDS at Kauffman Stadium. Clarke Schmidt gets the start for the Yankees across from Seth Lugo of the Royals.

Kansas City evened the series at one game apiece with a 4-2 win on Monday. The Yankees opened as slight Game 3 favorites (-118 via DraftKings) but have some concerns. One of which being Aaron Judge’s lack of offense (1-7 this series).

Will New York be able to get their bats going in Game 3? Or will the Royals pitching staff make this a low-scoring tilt?

Patrick Mahomes wildly taunts ex-Chiefs teammate during Royals’ rally against Yankees

By Christian Arnold

Patrick Mahomes was on hand to watch the Royals take on the Yankees in Game 3 of the ALDS and cheered emphatically after they tied up the game in the bottom of the fifth.

In fact, the moment went viral when TBS cameras caught Mahomes running up to celebrate in the face of a Yankees fan in the suite he was sitting in.

The Yankees fan, it turns out, was former teammate Gehrig Dieter, who played for the Chiefs from 2018-20.

Giancarlo Stanton soaks in Game 3 performance

By Bridget Reilly

Giancarlo Stanton owed Game 3 for the Yankees.

"This is what I came here for," he said after the victory.

"You know, not always going to be successful here but just gotta keep working and put yourself in the best opportunity."

Stanton hit 3-for-5 with two RBIs to help carry them on to their 3-2 victory.

Clarke Schmidt was 'excellent' in first career postseason start: Aaron Boone

By Bridget Reilly

Aaron Boone was quick to compliment his starter after the Yankees' 3-2 Game 3 win over the Royals on Wednesday night to be one win away from the ALCS.

"I thought Clarke was excellent," he said after the win. "I thought he was really in control of what he was doing. I thought his stuff was good. His execution for the most part was good. Just not able to quite finish off that inning but yeah he gave us what we needed."

The inning that Boone referred to was the bottom of the fifth when the Royals scored both of their runs off of a double from Kyle Isbel and a triple by Michael Massey.

Across 4.2 innings, Schmidt allowed four hits and recorded four strikeouts and one walk for an ERA of 3.86.

Giancarlo Stanton jolts life into listless Yankees offense to bring them one win from ALCS

By Andrew Battifarano

Giancarlo Stanton might’ve delivered his signature Yankees moment on Wednesday night.

The slugger capped off a huge night with a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth to give the Yankees a 3-2 win in Game 3 of the ALDS, propelling them to a 2-1 series lead over the Royals in Kansas City.

Stanton drove in the game’s first run with an RBI double in the fourth, but his biggest shot came four innings later when he stepped in against lefty reliever Kris Bubic.

Yankees win Game 3 over Royals 3-2 after big outing from Luke Weaver

By Bridget Reilly

Luke Weaver nailed his assignment.

In the bottom of the ninth inning in a one-run game, Royals' MJ Melendez hit a fly out to left fielder Alex Verdugo. Maikel Garcia followed with a pop up in foul territory to be caught by Oswaldo Cabrera.

And finally, Tommy Pham grounded out to shortstop off of a fastball.

Weaver's closing helped the Yankees clinch a 3-2 win for a 2-1 series lead. They're one win away from joining the Mets in the championship series round.

Game 4 is set for Thursday at 8:08 p.m. in Kansas City.

Game 3 comes down to Yankees defense

By Bridget Reilly

Despite Royals pitcher Michael Lorenzen allowing Juan Soto and Aaron Judge on base -- by an error and walk, respectively -- the Yankees couldn't put together a hit to extend their one run lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Yankees lead 3-2 and it will be down to Weaver to help earn the 2-1 series lead.

Luke Weaver exits eighth inning unscathed

By Bridget Reilly

Weaver was called in to get a five out save for the Yankees.

Despite allowing a single each from Bobby Witt Jr. and Salvador Perez, Weaver still prevented any runs after Yuli Gurriel hit a fly out to center field for the third out.

Salvador Perez single puts Royals in scoring position

By Bridget Reilly and Bridget Reilly

After Bobby Witt Jr. earned his first hit -- a single -- of the ALDS, Salvador Perez hit a single to increase the Royals hopes for a 2-1 series lead.

In the bottom of the eighth inning with Luke Weaver on the mound, Perez hit a ground ball to center field to advance Witt to third.

Bobby Witt Jr. gets first hit of ALDS

By Bridget Reilly

Royals fans are relieved to see their MVP finally get a hit against the Yankees.

In the bottom of the eighth inning with one run away from a tie, Witt hit a single off to left field of Luke Weaver, who Aaron Boone called in for five out save in place of Tommy Kahnle.

Witt stands on first with two outs.

Giancarlo Stanton's solo homer gives Yankees lead 3-2

By Bridget Reilly

This is Giancarlo Stanton's night.

For his 12th career postseason homer, Stanton launched a breaking ball to left center field for the Yankees to regain the lead in the top of the eighth, 3-2.

Stanton has had the most success and power in the Yankees lineup that has struggled to see their stars of Juan Soto and Aaron Judge shine in the playoffs.

Stanton has gone 3-for-4 with two RBIs so far in Game 3. Prior to Wednesday night, he was 1-for-8 in the ALDS against the Royals.

Aaron Judge called on swinging strike with Soto on base, score remains 2-2

By Bridget Reilly

Aaron Judge is still chasing his 2024 playoff moment.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Royals replaced John Schreiber with Sam Long and after two ground outs, he walked Juan Soto with Judge on deck.

After down 0-2 in the count, Judge worked it to full count but capped it off with what appeared to be a checked swing before it was called a swinging strike for the final out.

The camera panned to Aaron Boone, who clearly mouthed "f-ck" at the umpire's call.
