The biggest of the Yankees’ myriad injuries won’t be healed soon.
“[Luis] Severino you won’t see until after the All-Star break, in our minds,” Brian Cashman said Sunday on Sirius XM.
This serves as the first hazy timetable the Yankees have given for the ace’s return from a Grade 2 lat strain. Severino has not pitched this season, originally shut down with rotator-cuff inflammation, until a later MRI revealed the strain. The All-Star Game is July 9.
The Yankees GM went one-by-one on “The Front Office” to update the various ailments the Yankees are fighting:
— James Paxton, who hit the IL Saturday with left knee inflammation, is looking at a “three-week-at-max situation” before returning, Cashman said.
— Dellin Betances should return sometime in June. “We’re hoping to get him starting a throwing program Monday,” Cashman said.
— Giancarlo Stanton is expected to taking batting practice this week.
— Aaron Hicks could begin a rehab program as early as this week. “It’s possible you see him as early as next weekend,” Cashman said.
— Didi Gregorius could complete a throwing program this week. The Yankees are targeting May 20 for DH at-bats in extended spring training.
— Nothing more on Troy Tulowitzki since his setback last week.
— No Greg Bird, Aaron Judge or Jacoby Ellsbury updates.
