BALTIMORE — Zack Britton pitched a simulated inning at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday as he rehabs from March elbow surgery.
“He was really encouraged,’’ Yankees manager Aaron Boone said before Saturday’s game against the Orioles. “He was a little rusty, but felt his stuff was good and his arm felt great.”
As long as he bounces back well, the left-hander is scheduled to throw in a rehab game with Double-A Somerset on Wednesday.
Britton is in line to rejoin the bullpen by the beginning of June, when he is eligible to come off the 60-day IL.
Among the reasons the bullpen has performed well even without Britton has been the addition of Wandy Peralta, the left-hander acquired from the Giants in exchange for Mike Tauchman.
He entered Saturday having allowed just a pair of base-runners in 4 ¹/₃ shutout innings over six appearances with the Yankees.
Peralta’s effectiveness has also made up for the ineffectiveness of struggling southpaw Justin Wilson.
