ARLINGTON, Texas — On Wednesday morning, it looked as if Jasson Domínguez would have a runway for regular at-bats in the big leagues for at least the next week or two.

By Wednesday night, that was dependent on a CT scan.

In his third game since being called up to fill in for the injured Giancarlo Stanton, Domínguez was drilled on the left elbow by Nathan Eovaldi’s 89 mph cutter in the fourth inning of the 3-0 loss to the Rangers at Globe Life Field.

After staying in to run the bases, Domínguez was replaced in left field by the bottom of the inning and underwent X-rays that were “inconclusive,” requiring further testing back in New York on Thursday.

“Right when it hit me, I felt my arm go numb a little bit,” Domínguez said. “But it’s just been swelling. … As of right now, I don’t feel any concern.”

Aaron Boone said that when he and head trainer Tim Lentych tended to a hurting Domínguez on the field, Lentych “felt like a bump.” By the time Domínguez returned to the dugout, he was still in pain, at which point Max Schuemann replaced him in left field.

“Hate seeing that,” Boone said. “Hopefully the tests reveal not much and it’s just bruising and we’ll work through it. But unknown at this point.”

The 23-year-old has had some brutal injury luck, including tearing his UCL just eight games into his major league career in September 2023, requiring Tommy John surgery that set him back for much of 2024.

This time around, Domínguez was three games into a call-up, which looked more promising for regular playing time after the Yankees designated veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk for assignment Wednesday morning. In doing so, they seemed to ensure that Domínguez would stick around for a little longer — likely as long as Stanton remains on the IL — after it had seemed like his stay might be temporary with Anthony Volpe potentially returning from the IL this weekend.

All of that was put into flux as the Yankees awaited the results of Thursday’s CT scan.

“Got to wait till [Thursday] and see,” said Domínguez, who indicated he had full range of motion. “This is baseball. It is what it is.”
