The Yankees added some depth to their battered bullpen on Monday, claiming right-hander Rico Garcia, who was designated for assignment by the Mets last week.
The 31-year-old Garcia appeared in two games and tossed 4 ⅔ scoreless innings for the Mets after signing a minor league deal with them in the offseason.
He then tossed 30 ⅓ innings at the Triple-A level with a 4.45 ERA. He struck out 27.4% of batters faced but also gave out walks at a 14.8% clip.
The Yankees signed Rico Garcia Corey Sipkin for the NY POSTHe spent most of the season with Triple-A Syracuse. Since he’s out of minor league options, the Yankees will need to find a spot for him on the active roster when the second half opens on Friday.

They’ve had plenty of issues in the pen, with the now-injured Mark Leiter Jr. and Jonathan Loaisiga among the veteran arms struggling.
The bullpen currently has little-used arms like Scott Effross and Clayton Beeter taking up space.
