The Yankees open the postseason against their hated rivals.

The Red Sox come to The Bronx on Tuesday night for Game 1 of the best-of-three AL wild-card series.

One of the main storylines of the series will be if Aaron Judge can put his playoff struggles behind him after another MVP-caliber regular season.

Will the Yankees jump to an early lead? Or will Crochet’s arsenal be too much to handle?

Luke Weaver can’t replicate previous playoff magic as Yankees bullpen flops in loss to Red Sox

By Dan Martin

This was not the postseason debut the Yankees bullpen was looking for.

From Luke Weaver blowing a one-run lead in the seventh, to David Bednar allowing an insurance run in the ninth, Yankees relievers weren’t as sharp as they’d been down the stretch — or enough to beat the Red Sox on Tuesday in The Bronx in a 3-1 loss in Game 1 of their wild-card series.

Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s postgame body language says it all after sitting Yankees’ Game 1 loss

By Greg Joyce

Jazz Chisholm Jr. never said he was upset about the decision to keep him out of the Yankees’ lineup to start Game 1 of the wild-card series Tuesday night.

He didn’t have to.

His body language said it all, as Chisholm conducted a brief interview with reporters, spent mostly with his back towards the cameras as he rummaged through the hangers in his locker, as if he was searching for answers to the questions coming his way.

ESPN eviscerated for audio issues during Yankees-Red Sox Game 1: ‘A mess’

By Andrew Battifarano

The opening game of the Yankees-Red Sox wild-card series had plenty of exciting moments in a tight ballgame. One thing less exciting, according to some of those who were viewing from home, was the audio on ESPN’s feed.

During Game 1 from Yankee Stadium, ESPN’s feed made a loud static-like noise a number of times, particularly when the crowd cheered in exaltation.

One moment in particular viewers pointed to was in the top of the fourth inning with the Red Sox threatening with runners on second and third base and two out.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. admits he was surprised by Yankees' Game 1 lineup in bizzare postgame interview

By Bridget Reilly

Jazz Chisholm Jr. started Tuesday night's game from the bench in what was a "matchup" move decision by the Yankees as they faced lefty Garrett Crochet as the starter.

He received a call from Aaron Boone about the decision the night prior, he said after the 3-1 loss, yet in the postgame interview he seemed upset and standoffish in the clubhouse as he faced away from reporters and cameras while answering questions.

Aaron Boone explains reason behind decision to pull Max Fried

By Bridget Reilly

The Yankees bullpen failed Max Fried on Tuesday night.

After 6.1 innings that saw him fight out of several jams and record six strikeouts in his first postseason game as a Yankee, Luke Weaver quickly turned the page for the Yankees followed by Fernando Cruz, Devin Williams, Tim Hill, and David Bednar.

Meanwhile the Red Sox didn't pull ace Garrett Crochet until the seventh inning and only called on one reliever to close out the game, Aroldis Chapman.

"I wanted him to go out and get Duran and felt like we were lined up"

Yankees’ bullpen fails Max Fried in crushing Game 1 loss to Red Sox

By Greg Joyce

No matter how good the Yankees bullpen looked down the stretch, they had inflicted enough pain during the course of the regular season to induce nightmares about what might happen in October.

The Yankees could not wake up from such a night terror on Tuesday, though their bullpen was not the only unit responsible for that.

After Max Fried carried a gem into the seventh inning, hanging on to a one-run lead, Luke Weaver relieved him and quickly flushed it away, resulting in a tense 3-1 loss to the Red Sox in Game 1 of the AL wild-card series in The Bronx.

Weaver had no room for error because Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet was in the midst of a dominant night, throwing 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball while striking out 11.

Crochet passed the baton to former Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman, who finished off the eighth before giving up three straight singles on three straight pitches to Paul Goldschmidt, Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger to lead off the ninth.
