Yoenis Cespedes’ final 2019 line can now be tallied: No runs, no hits, one directional error.

The Mets announced Thursday the news that had been inevitable: Cespedes “is expected” to miss the rest of this 2019 season after undergoing surgery Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery to repair

. The 33-year-old already had been out for the entirety of this season rehabilitating from 2018 surgeries on both heels.

With the medical concern out of the way, the Mets can focus fully on whether they have a case to reclaim any of the money they owe Cespedes in the wake of the accident at his Port St. Lucie, Fla., ranch. Cespedes told the team he “stepped in a hole” there, and the Mets must prove something more pernicious occurred — no easy task — if they want to mount a challenge.

Cespedes has played in just 119 games since signing a four-year, $110 million extension with the Mets in November 2016.
